Homemade vs. High-End: The Ultimate Milkshake Showdown
Milkshakes are the ultimate comfort drink, whether you're enjoying a fancy one at a five star hotel or quickly blending up one at your own home. But, how different are they really when it comes to taste and flavor? Is there a difference beyond the price tag or are they more alike than we think? Let's compare two vanilla milkshakes, one homemade and one from a five star hotel, to explore their eccentric qualities.
I chose a classic vanilla milkshake for this experiment. Why vanilla? Because it strikes the perfect balance between timeless simplicity and rich flavor. The key elements I'll be looking for:
Taste, Texture, Price and Presentation.
Let’s jump in and see how these two milkshakes compare!
Homemade Milkshake: Simplicity at its best
For this homemade version, I only used 3 ingredients: Milk, Ice Cream and Water. Making this was as easy as tossing everything into a blender and pressing the power button. In under 5 minutes, a tasty and creamy vanilla shake was ready!
In terms of taste and texture, it was creamy and smooth. The full cream milk added a rich base and the vanilla ice cream made the flavor possible. It was very simple yet satisfying, the kind of milkshake you'd feel like drinking on a lazy weekend afternoon.
Now, let's talk about the total pricing of this milkshake. I tried to keep everything as cheap as I could so that I can compare it to a pricey one. The ice cream costed around 50 taka and the milk was about 10 taka. And water? It's free, bruh! Overall, the milkshake cost around 60 taka per serving!
Five Star Milkshake: An opulent experience
Picture a fancy lobby, soft music playing in the background and the milkshake served in a sleek glass. The presentation of the milkshake was very simple and not that special, in terms of a milkshake being served at a five star hotel like Sheraton, but the atmospheric ambience and its environment friendliness made it somewhat special from the start.
When I asked them about the way they make their milkshakes and what makes their milkshakes special and/or different from others to one of their employees, they replied-
"Our milkshakes are made from organic ingredients, including the homemade ice cream we use, which is also made from organic products. You also have the option to choose your milk—whether you prefer regular milk or a nut-based alternative like almond or oat milk, we can customize it to your liking. Additionally, our milkshakes are served at the perfect temperature, which is often missing in other milkshakes from different restaurants. Many places don’t cool their milkshakes properly, but we ensure the temperature is just right."
The milkshake was served without any added sugar. They gave a small jar of sugar syrup so that I can adjust the sweetness in the milkshake according to my preference, though I didn't add any. First sip? Interesting. The texture was a little creamier and richer than my homemade version. The handmade ice cream was extra smooth, giving the milkshake a silky feel. Despite its praiseworthy taste, was it quite different from the homemade one? NOT Really!
Now, the real kicker comes in - the price! The milkshake was priced at a jaw-dropping 900 taka per serving. Yes, 900 taka for a glass of milkshake. Sure, it was good, but was it 15 times better than the homemade one, as the price of it is 15 times the price of the homemade one? I highly doubt that! When I asked them about the justification of the pricing, they replied that it was confidential but mainly because of the credit of it being made and served at a five-star hotel.
Does the presentation and the ambience really matter?
The five star hotel milkshake was an interesting experience. With an amazing service and impressive presentation, it felt special. Meanwhile, my homemade milkshake was served in a regular glass from the kitchen and the setting was just my cozy living room. Even though the hotel's presentation was quite impressive, does a milkshake really need all that? In the end, it's all about the taste, right?
Overall,
In the showdown between homemade and luxury milkshakes, the five star hotel version is a real indulgence, great for those special occasions. However, if you're looking for your go-to comfort drink for daily refreshment, a homemade version of milkshake offers the same delicious flavor at a minimum cost.
In the end, you don't need to spend big bucks to enjoy a great milkshake. Sometimes, the best treats are the ones you make at your own kitchen!
